Gelli Printing V

Gelli plate and an onion bag.
This turned out looking like snake skin.
Ready to pull a ghost print after taking the bag off the plate.
Ghost print comes out lighter, more subtle.

Gelli Printing IV

Started with a blue stencil gelli print. then I rolled out some green and stamped it with foam leaf shaped stamps.
 This is the pulled print.
Then I die cut some leaf shapes from stencil paper to use as masks and pulled that print.
After I removed the masks. . .
. . . and pulled the ghost print - which I really liked also.
Next I decided to use the negative portion from the leaf masks and purple paint. . .
. . . which turned out like this.

Gelli Printing II

Switched to cheaper bottle acrylic paints and they work great.  This is what I plan to use with my students at school - much more cost effective.  Here I experimented with stencils, texture rubbing plates, and bubble wrap.
Here I used a texture rubbing plate with the first color and then some foam stamps with the second color.

Gelli Printing I

Finally got busy and started experimenting with my Gelli plates.
I first tried using some heavy bodied acrylic paints from the tube and they worked just fine.  Here I experimented with some stencils and pulled my ghost prints on some old xerox copies of silhouettes that I had planned to recycle.  Loved the look of the colored prints with the silhouettes.

Wee Folk Tags

For this swap we could use any kind of wee folk and I chose gnomes.  I used something close to the size of a  #8 shipping tag. I drew with a black Sharpie pen and colored with Tim Holtz distress watercolor markers and I also used his water brushes for the first time. They worked good. Only disappointment when I opened the detail water brush to find it had been smashed, but it doesn't leak too bad, I bought it at a convention so no way to return/exchange it.

Origami Pocket Letter

Patterned papers, die cut borders, washi tape and 9 different origami creations.  I decided to do different types of birds and I used scrapbook paper for my models.  I couldn't find a 9th bird that wasn't too thick for my pocket so for the center pocket I made a flower.

Paint/Draw Like a Woman ATC's

For this swap the challenge was to create an ATC in the style of a woman artist. The artist had to be selected from a given list found on Wikipedia. The artist had to be someone you had never herd of before - what a challenge !
I chose Sara Rahbar, an Iranian-American contemporary mixed media artist.  I liked her Flag Series, which is a basically a fabric collage, I liked all  combinations of color and fabrics, and patterns.

The second artist I chose was Rita Angus, a New Zealand painter.  I really liked the geometric simplification in her landscapes.

The third artist I chose was Norma C. Bull, and Australian painter.   The thing that appealed to me about her work were her beach scenes - a personal favorite.
